Privacy Policy
NoteSurfing ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the NoteSurfing mobile application (the "App").
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you register using Google or Apple Sign-In, we receive your name and email address from the identity provider. We do not receive or store your passwords.
Usage and progress data. We collect information about your activity within the App, including lessons completed, streaks, scores, rankings, and subscription status. This data is stored in our database (Supabase) to sync your progress across devices.
Audio recordings. Both the reading and intonation modules use your device's microphone.
- Reading module: short audio recordings (typically 5–30 seconds per exercise) are processed by NoteSurfing for real-time evaluation. These recordings may be securely stored on our servers, associated with a unique identifier of your account, and used to improve our services and train our internal music evaluation models. NoteSurfing does not commercialize, sell, or share these recordings with third parties for advertising purposes.
- Intonation module: audio is processed entirely on your device using local pitch-detection algorithms. Audio from this module does not leave your device.
Crash and performance data. We use Sentry to collect anonymous crash reports and performance metrics (e.g. device model, OS version, stack traces when the App fails). This data helps us diagnose and fix issues.
Payment information. Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment card details. We receive only confirmation of purchase status from these providers.
Device information. We may collect basic device information such as operating system version and device type to ensure compatibility and improve performance.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and personalize the App experience
- To sync your progress and streaks across devices
- To process and verify your subscription status
- To improve pitch and reading recognition accuracy through analysis and training of our internal models
- To diagnose crashes and performance issues
- To communicate with you about your account or the App
- To comply with legal obligations
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the following third-party services, solely as necessary to operate the App:
- Specialized third-party services – for technical processing operations such as speech analysis and audio transcription, under data processing agreements
- Supabase – database, storage, and authentication infrastructure
- RevenueCat – subscription and in-app purchase management
- Sentry – crash reporting and performance monitoring
- Apple / Google – identity verification and payment processing
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. Audio recordings from the reading module may be retained on our servers in association with your account, and used to improve our services and train our music evaluation models. For technical processing of these recordings, NoteSurfing may use specialized third-party services under data processing agreements; these services operate under their own privacy policies and may temporarily retain transmitted information according to their internal policies. You may delete your account and request deletion of all associated data, including audio recordings, at any time by contacting us at privacy@notesurfing.com.
5. Children's Privacy
NoteSurfing is designed for use by individuals aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App may offer UX configurations that allow the registered adult user (13+) to adapt the learning experience for another learner, such as a younger student; in that case, the adult account holder is responsible for the interaction and for complying with their local regulations regarding children's use of digital services. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information directly, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@notesurfing.com. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through in-app notification.
